Hard to believe we are already past the half way mark of October and Fall Concerts are next week.
This year our Fall Concerts are on Monday, Oct. 24th and Wednesday, Oct. 26th, 7 pm in the Graham Theatre. There is no cost for admission but we are always accepting donations for our scholarship and bursary fund.
Students are to arrive no later than 6:29 pm and check in with their music teacher in the music room. Please refer to our uniform page on the website about specifics for each group. As part of their mark students must help with either set up or clean up of the concert and ensure their name gets on the list. Set-Up happens immediately after school as we move everything into the theatre and set the stage. Clean-Up happens directly after the concert. The list of students helping will not be created until all the work is complete!
As a reminder, Concerts are our term project and attendance is mandatory for all students. Failure to attend a concert may result in a failure for the term. There is no way to make up a concert!
October 24th: Orchestra, Sr. Wind Ensemble Jr. Jazz Band
October 26th: Sr. Jazz Band, Choir and Jr. Concert Band.
TRIPS:
Information about our ‘senior trip’ to MusicFest Canada in Niagra Falls as well our ‘junior trip’ to Whistler for the Cantando Music Festival will be coming out shortly. Fundraisers for those trips will be starting next month. Our first fundraiser is through Global Coffee where students have the opportunity to sell 1 lb bags of fresh roasted ground or whole bean coffee.
Lastly I’d like to take a moment to recognize an outstanding achievement by one of our Sr. students, Zack Wang. Zack auditioned for and was selected to be part of the BC Music Educators Provincial Honours Concert Band. This prestigious ensemble is made up of the top high school instrumentalists across the province and we are incredibly proud to have Zack representing G.W. Graham! The group is rehearsing all day Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week in preparation for the concert Friday night. Grade 9’s, 10’s and 11’s: information about how to audition for these groups can be found HERE.
As always please let me know if you have any questions,
Mr. Monkman
