Hard to believe we are already half way through October. Fall Concerts are less then 2 weeks away! Big shout out to our Pep Band who has already performed at 2 Sr. Varisty Football games and Orchestra who recently performed at the Principal’s reception.
This year our Fall Concerts are on Tuesday, Oct 30th and Wednesday, Nov. 1st, 7 pm in the Graham Theatre. Students are to arrive no later then 6:29 pm and check in with their music teacher in the music room. Please refer to our uniform page on the website about specifics for each group. As part of their mark students must help with either set up or clean up of the concert and ensure their name gets on the list. Set Up happens immedicately after school as we move everything into the theatre and set the stage. Clean Up happens directly after the concert. The list of students helping will not be created until all the work is complete! As a reminder, Concerts are our term project and attendance is mandatory for all students. Failure to attend a concert may result in a failure for the term. There is no way to make up a concert!
October 30th: Orchestra, Sr. Concert Band, Band 9 and Jr. Jazz Band
November 1st: VOX, Treble Makers, Band 8 and Sr. Jazz Band.
Reminder to all Sr. Concert Band members and families we also have a concert on Nov. 6th with the Fraser Valley Wind Ensemble. This concert is at 7:30 pm at the Chief Seapass Theatre in the Langley Fine Arts School. Bussing will be provided for students and we’d love to see some Graham music families out there to support!
Jazz students and families, information has recently gone home about our annual trip to the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival in Moscow, Idaho. This is a 4 day trip where the Jazz ensembles perform and compete in the Jazz Festival, attend workshops and get a chance to work with and listen to professional jazz musicians. Permission forms and a $225 deposit is due by Oct. 26th in order to secure your seat on the bus.
Information about our Sr. Trip as well and a Band 8/9 Tour band will be coming out shortly.
Lastly I’d like to take a moment to recognize an outstanding achievement by 5 of our Sr. students. Jackson Howard, Cindy Castro, Mackenzie Lutz, Kaylee Lengert and Kyle O’Callaghan have all been chosen to be part of the BC Music Educators Provincial Honours Concert Band. This prestigious ensemble is made up of the top high school instrumentalists across the province and we are incredibly proud to have 5 Graham Music students! The group is rehearsing all day Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in preparation for the concert Friday night. Grade 9’s, 10’s and 11’s: information about how to audition for these groups can be found HERE.
As always please let me know if you have any questions,
