December is upon us and with only 15 school days until the winter break we have lots going on in the Music Dept. First off, bravo to the Sr. Jazz Band for their performance this past Friday night at Halcyon Meadows. They provided an evening of Christmas tunes and Big Band classics for a packed clubhouse! Also bravo to our Pep Band who travelled early Saturday morning to BC Place to play at the BC JV AA football finals. With a score of 69-27 for GW the Pep Band was busy playing lots of celebratory tunes and even got rave reviews from BC High School Football announcers who said having the band there made it feel like a NCAA game!
Trips: Information about our Senior and Band 8/9 trips has gone home. Our Seniors will be headed to Edmonton this Spring to perform in the Cantando Music Festival and our 8/9’s will be headed to Whistler. This is on top of our Jazz groups who will be headed to Moscow, Idaho in February for the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival. Deposits and permission forms for the Whistler and Edmonton trip are due no later than Friday, Dec 7th.
Concerts: Our Christmas Concerts this year are on Monday, Dec 17th (Orchestra, Band 9, Treble Makers and Sr. Concert Band) and Wednesday, Dec 19th (VOX, Sr. Jazz Band, Band 8 and Jr. Jazz Band). Students having been working hard to prepare a number of Christmas and winter selections and are excited to share them with everyone!
